Perthes Kids Foundation is run almost entirely by volunteers — which means what you're doing genuinely matters, and it also means you won't need to wait on us to get started.

What Perthes is, in two sentences

Perthes disease is a rare childhood hip condition — about 5 in every 100,000 children a year — where the ball of the hip temporarily loses its blood supply, softens, and slowly rebuilds over two to four years. Kids face years of crutches, braces, and sitting out, and most have never met another child going through it.

That last part is what your fundraiser changes. Perthes Kids Foundation runs free summer camps where kids finally meet others who get it, connects families worldwide through a free Locator, and funds research into why Perthes happens.

Where to set your fundraiser up

When you launch

I'm raising money for the Perthes Kids Foundation. Perthes is a rare childhood hip condition — the ball of the hip loses its blood supply and has to slowly rebuild, which can take years of crutches and braces. Most kids going through it have never met another kid who has it. PKF runs free summer camps that change that, and connects families all over the world. Anything you can give helps, and sharing this helps just as much.

For a birthday fundraiser

I don't need anything for my birthday this year. What I'd love instead is help for kids with Perthes disease — a rare hip condition that keeps children on crutches for years and leaves most of them feeling like the only one. The Perthes Kids Foundation sends them to a camp where they finally meet each other. Even a small gift means a lot.

If your own child has Perthes

Most of you know what our family has been through this year. Perthes disease has meant crutches, appointments, and a lot of days our kid had to sit and watch. The hardest part wasn't the pain — it was feeling like the only child in the world going through it. The Perthes Kids Foundation is the reason that changed for us. I'm raising money so another family gets what we got.

The nudge partway through

We're partway to the goal and I'd love to close the gap. Every gift goes to the Perthes Kids Foundation — camp for kids with Perthes, support for their families, and research into why it happens. Thank you to everyone who's given already.

  • Please don't accept cash or cheques made out to Perthes Kids Foundation — send people to one of the platforms so every gift is receipted properly.
  • Donors get their tax receipt from the platform they gave through, not from PKF.
  • You're welcome to use the PKF name and logo for a fundraiser like this. Anything commercial — selling products, a business promotion — needs a quick email to info@pertheskids.org first.
